INSTRUCTIONS

These are evolving instructions as varying devices become online and bugs are hopefully stomped out.

To access the programs below do the following

Open a window log into hill
cd ~treffers/mdm

STARTING THE SERVER

In a separate window type in the command:
rtel
Only one copy of the server can be running at a time. If more than one copy is running you will get the error:
xpc: bind error port 1340 maybe in use

COMMAND MODE

The telescope can be commanded using the tx program or by typing commands into the GUI. For example:
tx point ra=14:15:57.78 dec=19:08:53
tx mirror open
tx track on
tx track off
tx offset dec=.01 ra=.01 cos
Details of the commands for the server can be found in rtel.

HOMING THE TELESCOPE

Eventually the homing will be by command but for the moment using the tilt sensor is the best method. To home first make sure that the server is running and the GUI is not connect, and the telescope is not tracking then type the comand:
homeit
You will then be asked to read the tilt sensors that are in the computer room. Enter in the two values on the voltmeters with a space between them and then wait for the telescope to move. Iterate the process until you type in 000 000 and the program will home the encoders and exit.

Note: Do not put a space between any negative sign and the number. For example enter -14 or -014 but not - 14. This is an odd bug.

GUIDING
The responsivity of the paddle must be changed before using the guider. I have found that the following value works:
tx paddle gain=.02
When done reset the paddle to a higher value.
tx paddle gain=.1
MAINTENANCE MOVES
To move the telescope great distances with the paddle use the command
tx paddle type=1
To reset it to normal mode
tx paddle type=0
